Our Story

Black Being is a nonprofit organization making the healing of Black people its focus as an embodied declaration of our inherent worthiness. We choose this mission as a response to the strategic and systemic realities that are inflicted upon Black communities. Our collective work adamantly prioritizes the wellbeing, lived experiences, leadership, wisdom, and power of Black people through trauma-conscious practices, convening and programs.

We Exist

Black Being honors and prioritizes Black people at every stage of their healing journey. We exist to encourage physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, through practices and programs anchored in culture, belonging, and ancestral wisdoms.

We Envision

A world where all Black people are taken care of emotionally, mentally and physically while living freely in their bodies and in their communities.

Originally founded by Black women and femmes, Black Being’s guiding team includes community and nonprofit leaders, psychologists, healers and wellbeing practitioners.

Alli Simon
Executive Director

Allison “Alli” Simon (She/Her) is a certified yoga and meditation facilitator from South LA.

With over 20 years experience in the nonprofit sector, she commits her energy to the field of philanthropy where she works with nonprofits dedicated to systems change and racial + healing justice.

Her meditation journey began as a way to restore from loss and systemic trauma. What began as just a personal journey and practice, transformed into her sharing her practice with friends and family and eventually throughout communities. She is devoted to increasing access to self-care practices for Black people and believes that tools, like meditation, yoga and therapy, can help foster a more compassionate, resilient and heart-centered world.

Alli also works with Social Justice Partners LA and regularly leads classes at Op e n, The Underground Museum, and Compound LB.

Dr. shena young
Community & Healing Experience

Dr Shena is a licensed body centered & holistic psychologist, trauma informed educator/consultant, yoga teacher, creative, & published author.  She holds space for BIPOC with the intentions of inviting deeper authenticity & personal truth as a way of life.  She owns a private practice, embodied truth healing & psychological services, in Inglewood, CA with an emphasis on mind-body-heart-spirit care.  Her approach to healing departs from the colonized blueprint in centering the body as the medicine, with specialities in sexual & intergenerational trauma.  As a cofounder of black being, and leader of community & healing experience, she keeps her heart focused on the people —intuitively designing holistic moments of healing that embraces the whole person and our beloved communities.
